Yamaha has just launched an automatic scooter Alpha at the 2014 Auto Expo. The new Alpha is aimed at both men and women. The scooter is powered by a 113cc air-cooled engine which is mated to a continuous variable transmission (CVT). The scooter is tuned to provide great acceleration and an amazing fuel economy of 62 km/l. The leg reach has been designed by Yamaha engineers in such a way that it is easy for even women to ride the scooter. The storage capacity is also good enough at 21-litres.
The front suspension of the Yamaha Alpha is telescopic and the rear suspension is of upright type. Mr. Hiroyuki Yanagi, President and CEO, Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd was quoted saying that the company sees a lot of potential in the scooter market in India and hence they want to focus on introducing new products, improving the sales and after-sales strategies and expand their network throughout the country.
The Yamaha Alpha will be available in the following colours – black, grey, white, red and magenta. The Alpha is priced at Rs. 49,518/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). Yamaha is aiming at a target of selling 2 lakh units of the Alpha within one year of the launch. This year the theme of Yamaha is “Revs Your Heart”. The company has named its maiden mascot as Zippy.
