This is the Suzuki Authentics concept sedan that Maruti may showcase at the Auto Expo 2014. The Suzuki Authentics concept is likely to be a preview of the next-generation SX4 (codenamed YL1), believed to be named the Maruti Ciaz.
The Maruti Ciaz is expected to be more spacious and much better equipped than the outgoing SX4, significantly improving its value proposition. As for quality, the Maruti YL1 (Ciaz) is expected to be on par with its competition, namely the new Honda City and the Hyundai Verna.
In terms of styling, the Ciaz may get a wider version of Suzuki’s prominent grille on the longish bonnet. The large multi-element headlights look like projector units and the flanks seem tightly skinned with sharp cuts on the doors. At the rear, the tail-lamps remind you a bit of the all-new Honda City.
Mechanically, the YL1 sedan is likely to be offered with a petrol and diesel engine option. The petrol engine is expected to be the same 1.4-litre K14 motor as seen on the Ertiga, while the diesel variant may use the proven 1.3-litre DDiS multi jet engine with variable turbo geometry. In terms of transmission, for its automatic variant, Maruti could also offer an automated manual transmission (same gearbox technology that will feature on the new Maruti Celerio hatchback) instead of a conventional torque convertor. This may give Maruti a significant price advantage over its competitor’s equivalent automatic models.
Maruti’s new mid-size sedan is expected to launch in the second half of 2014
