Audi
Audi
While Mercedes and BMW chose to bring luxury hatchbacks here, Audi thinks our market isn’t ready yet; it has, instead, brought its A3 sedan here. The A3 sedan is compact and will come with two engine options – a 1.8-litre TSI petrol and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel. In a surprise move, Audi revealed the A3 Cabriolet to India; the car will go on sale alongside the regular A3 sedan. Also on display were the stunning RS7, R8 V10, and the 700bhp Quattro Concept.
BMW/Mini
BMW launched its 3-series GT at the show with a price-tag of Rs 42.75 lakh. The GT is a slightly longer version of the regular 3-series sedan so there’s a lot more space in the cabin, even the rear seats recline, sure to appeal to the chauffeur driven. BMW also showcased the futuristic i8 hybrid, which the company claims touches 100kph in 4.4 seconds. The German carmaker also showcased the all-new X5 and the potent M6 Gran Coupe. Also, Mini officially brought the John Cooper Works brand to India.
Chevrolet
The American carmaker took the wraps off its stylish Adra concept, which, interestingly, was developed entirely in India by the company’s designers at the company’s technical centre in Bangalore. A competitor to the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster, the Adra is likely to be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine when it is launched.
Other cars at the stall were the facelifed Beat which starts at Rs 4.06 lakh for the base petrol and goes up to Rs 6.10 lakh for the top-end diesel. Chevrolet brought not just one but two of its muscle cars from the American market, the Camaro and the Corvette Stingray.
Datsun
Nissan’s budget brand showed the Go hatchback and Go+ MPV at the show. The carmaker still hasn’t revealed prices yet. Also on display was a stylish concept for future entry-level Datsun hatchback, called the redi-GO.
Fiat
Getting the most attention at the Fiat stall was the new Avventura, basically an off-road, semi-rugged crossover based on the Punto's platform, complete with a tail-gate-mounted spare wheel and ground clearance of 200mm. The updated Linea, with a new front end, was also displayed alongside the performance-oriented Fiat 500 Abarth.

JLR showcased F-type coupe & LWB Range Rover
Ford globally unveiled the Figo compact sedan concept which is in line with Ford’s global design language. The production version of the sub-four-metre concept will be powered by both petrol and diesel engine options and will be launched before the hatchback.
Also shown was the updated Fiesta sedan. The new, almost Aston-Martin like face and the updated interiors will go some way in boosting the car’s appeal. Engine options though continue unchanged. Ford also had an mildly updated 2014 Endeavour on display.
Honda
Honda showed two production ready cars at the Expo, the Mobilio MPV and the next-generation Jazz. The Mobilio, based on the Brio platform, is a seven-seat people mover that shares a lot with the tiny hatch. It will get the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines from the City and will be priced to compete with the Maruti Ertiga when it is launched.
The next-generation Jazz is based on the City's platform and will be more heavily localised when it goes on sale and will be offered with a diesel engine. Honda also showed the XS-1, a compact SUV concept which previews a seven-seat Toyota Innova-sized soft roader that will be built on Honda’s new 2GA platform.
The company also had there its stunning NSX supercar concept that has a mid-mounted V6 petrol motor coupled to a pair of electric motors for true supercar performance.
Hyundai
Hyundai launched the all-new Santa Fe at the Auto Expo 2014 with prices beginning at Rs 26.3 lakh. The seven-seat SUV comes with all the bells and whistles that we’ve come to expect from a Hyundai, and it comes with a choice of both 2WD and 4WD. Also there was the Grand i10-based Xcent saloon. The sub-four-metre Xcent is Hyundai’s first proper rival to the Swift Dzire and the Honda Amaze.
Isuzu
Isuzu had on display its D-max Space Cab. Aimed at the owner-driven utility vehicle market, the D-max Space Cab is what the company calls ‘India’s first multi-utility pick-up’. The company also showed its recently launched MU-7 SUV.
Jaguar-Land Rover
If you thought the F-type was stunning, wait till you get a load of the F-type coupé in the flesh at the JLR stall. Jaguar also had its C-X17 SUV concept and Project 7 sportscar concept there. The carmaker also announced that it will start assembling the XJ saloon in India. And, the company showcased its most expensive Rangie yet, the Range Rover LWB, which shared space with the 2014 Evoque that now comes with a nine-speed gearbox.Jaguar XJ sedan to be assembled in India

Mahindra & Mahindra
The Indian carmaker had a host of electric cars on display. The spotlight though was on the Halo electric sportscar that is claimed to accelerate to 100kph from standstill in under eight seconds. A top speed of 160kph and a range of 200km is also likely.
The other EVs there were the electric Verito with a range of 80km and a top speed of 85kph and the updated E2O which gets a new ‘Quick Charge’ port for even faster charging. Also on display was the company’s Formula E championship race car. The open wheel racer is powered by an electric motor and makes about 270bhp. A hybrid XUV 5OO was also on display alongside the Quanto with an automated manual transmission.
Maruti Suzuki
Maruti displayed its Authentics concept, which the company is now calling the ‘Ciaz’. The striking concept previews what the next generation SX4 will look like. Alongside the Ciaz was the SX4 S-cross, a crossover that’s scheduled to be launched in India soon. The other star of the stall was Maruti’s all-new Celerio, which was launched with quite an attractive price-tag starting from Rs 3.9 lakh.
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes had on display the production-ready version of its GLA-class SUV. The compact SUV is based on the same MFA platform as the A-class and CLA, and is Merc’s first proper rival to the likes of the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1. Also sharing space with the GLA was the CLA 45 AMG. It’s got a 2.0-litre petrol engine that puts out 360bhp, making it the most powerful four-cylinder engine in the world, yet the most efficient in its class.
Nissan
Nissan showcased its mildly updated Sunny at the show. Most of the changes are limited to the front – the grille is more pronounced, the headlights are larger and extend into the bumper, and there are new alloy wheels as well. Nissan also had at the Expo its race-winning GT-R GT500 and the Friend-Me concept, which points to what future Nissan sedans will look like.
Renault
The wicked KWID concept looks straight out of a video game. The great news is that a lot of its design elements could make it to the next-generation Duster. Also at the stand were the updated Koleos SUV that gets a bump in power by 23bhp and the facelifted Fluence sedan, which now wears the new Renault face and looks much more appealing.
Skoda
The facelifted Yeti made an appearance at the Auto Expo 2014. To be launched in the latter half of 2014, it will be offered with the 2.0-litre diesel engine with two power output options. The facelifted Superb was also showcased.

Ssangyong
The SsangYong LIV-1 concept SUV was showcased which could very well be the next-generation Rexton.
Tata Motors
The big news maker this year was Tata Motors. It unveiled two brand new offerings, the Bolt hatchback and the Zest sedan, both based on a heavily modified X1 platform of the Vista. The cars look decidedly modern and will be powered by the new 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine. The Zest will also get an automated manual gearbox when it is launched.
The Nexon concept previews the company’s future design language and points to the upcoming compact SUV. The Connectnext concept previews the company’s push towards more connectivity options in its future line-up.
A couple of variants of the Nano, an automatic that is likely to be launched next year, and the Twist Active with a regular opening hatch were also on display.
Toyota
The next-generation Corolla was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2014 and the sharply designed car shows Toyota’s push at making cars look more appealing. The car is longer and wider and the wheelbase has been stretched by 100mm to make more space at the rear.
Toyota also showed the rugged Etios Cross, basically an Etios Liva hatch with additional body cladding. Engine options remain the same as on the hatchback.
Volkswagen
Volkswagen had the compact Taigun SUV concept at the Auto Expo 2014. The SUV is based on the Up hatchback platform and is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine. The company is currently evaluating the feasibility of launching the car here in India.

Auto Expo 2014 : Hero Motor Corp displays EBR 1190 range
At the Auto Expo 2014 Hero Motor Corp displayed the variants of the EBR 1190. We were surely smitten by their presence at the Hero stall. No further details on pricing or specs were available. We have a couple of images that you could droll at.
Hero Motocorp Unveils Splendor Pro Classic: Poor Man’s Café Racer
Hero MotoCorp showcased the uniquely odd Splendor Pro at the 2014 Auto Expo. The Splendor Pro Classic is an attempt to create a café racer on a budget. The changes over the standard Splendor Pro include a rear cowl, a low-set handlebar, slightly redesigned twin pod instrument console and loads of chrome. The tail-lamps as well as the seat have also been modified to make this commuter look more like a Café Racer. Unfortunately, the Splendor is not cut out to be a Café racer, and it doesn’t end up looking like one.
The Splendor Pro ‘Café Racer’ is powered by the same 100cc air cooled single cylinder engine with 7bhp and 8.4Nm of torque that powers the stock Spendor. A café racer with a 100cc engine? Really? No sir, not even with those RVMs.
Auto Expo 2014 LIVE: Nissan GTR GT500
The Nissan GT-R GT500 can be seen competing in Japan’s Super GT Series, in the GT500 Class.
The Nissan GTR GT500 has been designed and developed by the good folks at Nismo, which is Nissan’s motorsport division. The GT500 came out in 2008, as a replacement for the 350Z race car. The Nissan GT500 doesn’t share its powertrain with the regular GT-R supercar. Initially, the GTR GT500 was given a 4.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine that came mounted to a six-speed sequential manual transmission. Later in 2010 though, the 4.5 litre motor was replaced by a 3.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine. The Nissan GT-R Nismo boasts of a rear wheel drive layout.
The Nissan GTR GT500 bagged as many as four victories in 2009 and was the championship leader in 2011 and 2012. The race-winning GTr GT500 was piloted by Team Mola GT-R drivers Ronnie Quintarelli and Masataka Yanagida, who brought home back to back championship in both Team and Driver categories of the Super GT500.

Auto Expo 2014 LIVE: DC Avanti showcased
Seen here are images & details of the much publicized DC Avanti that has been put on display by DC Designs. As most of you might be aware, the DC Avanti wa first showcased at the last Auto Expo and now, the car has reached further closer to the production.
DC Avanti has got closer to being a production reality. DC Design would set up an INR 60 Crore manufacturing plant at Sanand in Gujarat.
The Avanti is being expected to go on sale for a price of INR 25 lakhs. The Avanti is a mid engined sportscar that is powered by a 2 litre Ford EcoBoost engine, which has a max power output of 270 PS. The motor will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The car tips the scales at 1,562 kgs and can accelerates from zero to 100kmph in less than 7 seconds.
Speaking to Economic Times, Dilip Chhabria earlier said, “I want DC Design to manufacture limited edition cars. Once we are done with 4,000 units of one variant, we would phase that out and introduce a new model in the market. With aspirational young executives getting on board to own their sports car and luxury cars, we have decided to operate in the 25-30 lakh segment.”
DC Design’s production facility would be ready by 2014. The production of Avanti is likely to commence even before the completion of the upcoming plant. The initial few units of Avanti will be built at DC’s workshop in the outskirts of Pune. An early-2014 launch of Avanti is quite probable. The upcoming manufacturing facility would have an annual production capacity of 3,500 units.
Bajaj unveils two 400cc Pulsars at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo

If there was one thing that enthusiasts and autojournos were looking forward to, it was without doubt visiting the Bajaj Auto Stall at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. And boy oh boy! It did it live up to expectations and in fact even more.
The leading two-wheeler manufacturer of India today took the wraps off the two models that will soon be added to its Pulsar lineup – the sports cruiser Pulsar CS 400 and the sportier Pulsar SS 400. Like the 200 Duke and the Pulsar 200NS, both these models will also share some engine parts with the KTM 390 Duke. Mated to a six-speed transmission, both these Pulsars will be powered by a 375cc liquid-cooled, 4-valve triple spark engine with Fuel injection. While the spy shots of the Pulsar SS 400 have already started making their rounds on the internet, it might just be a while before these models finally hit the production lines.
Aside from both these motorcycles, the U Car concept also managed to turn a lot of heads at theBajaj Press conference today. The U Car is the passenger version of the RE 60 that Bajaj showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo. The company claims that this quadricycle will even be lighter than the 400kg RE60. U Car too will host a liquid-cooled, 4-valve, triple spark engine with fuel injection. This front-wheel drive car will be mated to an automatic transmission.
Last year’s show stopper, the Bajaj RE 60 was also seen at the Pune-based manufacturer’s stall aside from the Discover range of motorcycles and the recently launched dual tone Pulsar 200NS.

After conquering the commuter segment, it seems Hero MotoCorp has set its sight on the automatic scooter segment. At the 2014 Auto Expo Hero showcased three new scooters. The scooter that grabbed the most number of eyeballs was definitely the ZIR- a 150cc scooter. The ZIR was unveiled in two different variants, the flat board model and the stunning European style step thru. The ZIR has been loaded with features, which were never seen in the scooter segment, like dual projector headlamps with day light running lights integrated in them, petal disc brakes, LED turn indicators and tail lamp, windscreen etc.
Apart from visual differences, the European style step thru variant gets additional features like cowl-mounted console, and a larger windscreen. Both the models will be powered by a 157cc, liquid-cooled mill producing 14PS of power and 12.7Nm of torque. Hero claims that the ZIR can hit a top speed of 110km/h. Hero announced that the ZIR will be launched only in 2015 and haven’t revealed any details about its pricing. With the ZIR, Hero plans to revive a new segment of maxi-scooters, which was started by the Kinetic Blaze close to a decade back. But the Blaze wasn’t accepted warmly by the consumers but whether Hero would succeed or fail only time will tell but with the ZIRE it has made a strong statement.
Also unveiled at the event was the new Dare scooter. The Dare is a 125cc scooter, which according to Hero has been designed to appeal to the male buyers with its snazzy and sporty styling. The Dare is powered by a 125cc, air-cooled mill pumping out 9PS of power and 9.5Nm of torque. The new offering has been loaded with features like telescopic forks, disc brake at front, alloy wheels, LED day light running lamps and tail light, full digital instrument console, mobile phone charging socket, boot light etc. The Dare will be launched by mid-2014 and no details about its pricing were given at the unveiling event.
