Auto Expo 2014: Skoda expected to reveal Superb facelift, new Yeti, Rapid Ultima

The Czech automotive brand and VW subsidiary, Skoda Automobiles, has no new car to be showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.

Shocking but true, the company this time intends to introduce the facelifted versions of its currently available models. It could be that Skoda, at present, wants to focus on its current line-up and develop their capabilities by introducing the face-lifted versions. It is also true that developing a new strategy to introduce a fresh car consumes lot of time and monetary expenditure. The company apparently plans to go with the swing and showcase simply the refurbished versions of some of its models that it intends to launch this year.
Back in 2013, the next-generation Octavia was the only new product that the company launched in the Indian auto-market. Prior 2010, the Octavia has proved to be the most sold car by the company, but then, the launch of Laura forced the car maker to discontinue it. The drama of discontinuing continued till 2013 and this time it was the Laura that was pulled back. The new Octavia took the responsibility of upholding the premium saloon section of the company. Ultimately the Laura was phased out officially. Since the new Octavia has debuted, there is no news in the market about any new product from Skoda coming to India in the near future. So, it is quite clear that at the Skoda stand, there would be no fresh product but plenty of refurbished models.

Recently, the company revealed the images of revamped Skoda Superb on social networking websites; the car looked amazingly like a rival killer. Word is out, that the new Skoda Superb will be showcased at the Skoda stand at Auto Expo 2014. As far as its launch is concerned, we expect it to hit showrooms sometime around July or August this year. The 2014 Superb has received alterations both on its outside and inside. This time it has been tuned intelligently to enhance its sporty image. It gets an all new front grille, bumper like the new Octavia and modified headlights with inbuilt LED daytime running lights. Besides, the new set of alloy wheels is also introduced to add to its sportiness. Even the rear has been given LED treatment in the tail lights and the boot is also slightly tuned up to host the license place.

The new Yeti is globally available with 1.6 L 4-pot TDI engine that delivers peak power of 103 bhp, and another 2.0 L TDI mill that churns peak power of 168 bhp. The other Yeti Outdoor variants are offered with the 2
The new Skoda Superb is anticipated to carry the same spec power-trains, i.e. the 1.8 Litre TSI petrol and 2.0 Litre TDI diesel engines. Technically, the engines are reported to be more advanced than the predecessors, as they have been smartly tweaked to return outstanding fuel efficiency.
Along with the revamped Skoda Superb, the facelifted Yeti is also likely to be showcased at the upcoming Indian Auto Expo. Earlier, the company showcased the facelifted prototype of Yeti crossover at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in two interesting variants - the Yeti and the Yeti Outdoor. The Yeti gets the impressions of the urban SUV, while Yeti outdoor is typically meant for the off-road enthusiasts.

The new Yeti has already been launched in several international markets, however it will be launched in the Indian auto-market in second half of the year, if reports are to be believed. The new Yeti has also received notable cosmetic and interior alterations. Body colour bumpers, rear panels, attractive alloy wheels and side protective mouldings endow it with an urbanized crossover style. The cabins have also received alterations and now it gets new fabric upholstery, decorative trim pieces and revised dash-board.

WD and 4WD capabilities for impeccable off-road experience.

Along with the new Superb and the new Yeti, Skoda Rapid facelifted version could be the other model to be displayed at the Auto Expo. It is also expected that the up-market version of the new Rapid, the ‘Ultima’, could be unwrapped at the Auto Expo. Skoda Rapid facelift is speculated to be launched by 2014 end on the Indian shores. The changes have been done mainly on the exteriors of the Rapid that now gets fresh headlights, revamped bumper and fresh front grille. Even the bonnet has been slightly tweaked to increase its premium posture. The interiors too, have been added with materials to raise its image.
The new Rapid is expected to come powered by the same 1.6 Litre petrol and diesel mills that churn impressive power of 105 bhp. These power-trains would come mated to five speed manual transmission systems. In addition, Skoda is also looking forward to introduce the new Rapid with an AT variant, powered by a 1.2 Litre Turbocharged Direct Injection Petrol engine.
